School of Nursing

The AUHS School of Nursing prepares students to make a positive impact on society through the provision of competent, caring, and evidence-based nursing services to diverse patient populations.

Since 2003, the AUHS School of Nursing has been equipping students with the skills necessary to advance their careers within the nursing field and provide patients with the highest possible level of care. At the AUHS School of Nursing, students are able to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing – a highly valued degree that is becoming increasingly sought after in modern hospitals.

Students who pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the AUHS School of Nursing can look forward to an education that combines in-classroom learning with hands-on experience at a number of clinical training facilities nearby the AUHS campus. These facilities allow AUHS students to practice the skills they learn in clinical contexts that will leave them well-prepared to enter their careers.

As an added benefit, the BSN at AUHS is an accelerated program. This means students will be able to complete their degree in far less time than would be possible in a non-accelerated program.

FAQ.

Q: Is the School of Nursing accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)?

A: The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at American University of Health Sciences is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The Master of Science in Nursing program and the Post-Graduate APRN certificate at American University of Health Sciences is pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Applying for accreditation does not guarantee that accreditation will be granted.

CCNE is one of two major organizations that offers accreditation to nursing programs and is affiliated with American Association of Colleges of Nursing. In granting accreditation to the nursing programs at AUHS, CCNE has found the program to meet and exceed its accreditation standards which include a host of rigorous evaluations meant to show that a nursing program is fully capable of producing highly educated and well-prepared nurses whose service will be a benefit to the public health.

• Confidential Questionnaire
• Writing, Photograph & Video Release Waiver
2) An $80 non-refundable application fee in cash and money order ONLY payable to AUHS.

Q: Does AUHS offer an LVN-to-RN or LVN-to BSN?

A: No. Both tracks are not offered. Although an LVN is not required for the BSN program, because the School of Nursing implements a holist point-system, an LVN carries the most points under the Clinical Experience category.

Q: Does AUHS offer an RN-to BSN?

A: No. This specific track is currently not offered. In fact, most of our incoming students who hold an RN already have an LVN license. LVN students may still apply but classes are not transferable. Since the School of Nursing implements a holist point-system, an LVN license will count towards extra points.

Q: Is it required to complete the nursing prerequisites before applying to the nursing program? When are prerequisite courses offered?

A: No, you do not need to have all the prerequisites before applying to the university. If you wish to apply to the BSN program, completion of the 9 prerequisites is required. Because the prerequisites and GE courses are offered, the university will consider pre-nursing applicants with:
• A GED or high school diploma from accredited high schools, or
• At least 60 semester or 72 quarter units from accredited colleges, if without a GED or high school diploma, or
• An AS/AA or a BS/BA or higher degree from an accredited college/university.

Q: Do sciences courses expire at AUHS? Is it required to complete the prerequisite courses at any other schools before submitting my application? May I re-take expired courses at AUHS?

A: Science courses must have been taken within 5 years by enrollment. The expired prerequisites can be repeated at AUHS or at any other accredited schools if the course meets AUHS’ transfer credit policy.

Q: Do you accept applications from international students who possess an F-1 Visa? Do you issue Form I-20?

A: Yes. The Office of Student Affairs issues Form I-20 after the applicant is accepted into the program. The Office of Admissions determines if an international student has met the minimum admission requirements from official-evaluated academic records and test scores. For academic records, when transcripts are written in any language other than English, the international applicant may choose one of the approved agencies for translation and evaluation services with a nominal fee for the conversion of grades and the grade point average (GPA) to a 4.0 scale and the degree evaluation. For English language competency, regardless of citizenship and whose preparatory education was principally in a language other than English, the international applicant must also demonstrate competence in English by taking the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). A minimum score of 550 (paper), 213 (CBST) or 80 (IBST) on the TOEFL is required to be considered.

Q: What are the tuition fees for the program?

A: For more information regarding tuition fees, please refer to the Financial Aid website at https://www.auhs.edu/admissions/financial-aid/.

Q: How long is the nursing program?

A: The School of Nursing offers 2 major tracks; the length of each track differs.

• The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) is about 2.5 years.
• The Pre-Nursing to BSN is about 3.5 years.

Q: What can I do with a BSN or MSN degree?

A: With a BSN degree, you can apply your practical and leadership skills in a variety of healthcare settings, whether it is in a hospital, private practice, school district, telehealth services, and more. A BSN degree can also provide you the opportunity to pursue an advanced nursing degree.

In addition, an MSN degree allows you to advance your nursing education even further and boosts opportunities in a specialty area such as nursing administration and teaching.

Q: Who should I contact if I have any additional questions?

A: For additional questions, please contact the Admissions Office at (562) 988-2278 ex. 2048 or by e-mailing to admissions@auhs.edu.

Q: How do I begin my nursing school application?

A: If you believe that the nursing program(s) at AUHS is a right fit for you, you may take the first step of applying by contacting our Admissions Office and scheduling an Information Session. Our dedicated team of representatives will be glad to assist you with the process.

Please keep in mind that applications to the School of Nursing are on a rolling system during the Fall and Spring quarters, which means that it is first-come, first-serve. In other words, if you have completed and met/exceeded the minimum admission requirements and if the program has not yet reached its capacity, the School of Nursing will continue to review and make admission decisions.

The Nursing Programs have been offered by the AUHS School of Nursing with considerable success since 1998.
